At K9 Rescue Group we understand that surrendering a dog can be a difficult and emotional decision. We’re here to help and support you through this process. Our goal is to find a new, loving home for your dog, and we want to ensure that we can provide the best possible care and attention for them.
If you’re considering surrendering your dog to us, here’s what you need to know:
1. Surrender Application: The first step is to submit our online surrender application. Alternatively you can complete in reception during opening hours. Please provide as much detail as possible about your dog’s behaviour, medical history, and any relevant information that will help us understand their needs.
2. Triaged Waitlist: Our team will review your application and add it to our triaged waitlist. We’ll prioritise dogs based on their needs and the circumstances of the surrender.
3. Behavioural Assessment: Once you’re at the top of the waitlist and we have kennel space available, we’ll contact you to arrange a behavioural assessment for your dog. This assessment is crucial in ensuring that your dog is safe and suitable for rehoming.
4. Acceptance: If the behavioural assessment is successful, we’ll accept your dog into our care and begin the process of finding them a new forever home. There is a small surrender fee involved on the day.
Due to capacity constraints, we do have a lengthy waitlist, and it may take some time before we can accept your dog. We cannot accept dogs with a history of aggression towards people or those with a dangerous dog declaration. Our priority is the safety and well-being of our staff, volunteers, and the community.
